House Resolution
194 By: Representatives Chambers of the

A RESOLUTION
Commending The Auditory-Verbal Center of Atlanta, Inc.; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, in the State of
Georgia there are more than 600,000 hearing impaired citizens of whom 30,000 are
profoundly deaf children; and
WHEREAS, The
Auditory-Verbal Center of Atlanta, Inc., a nonprofit United Way agency, in the
year 2003 celebrates 26 years of eliminating deafness as we know it, through the
use of high technology and auditory-verbal therapy;
and
WHEREAS, The Auditory-Verbal Center of Atlanta,
Inc., has, over these 26 years, enabled over 300 deaf children in Georgia to
become independent hearing and speaking communicators without the need for, or
the extra costs of, sign language or lip reading, and those children have been
mainstreamed into the regular hearing population with no life limits;
and
WHEREAS, The Auditory-Verbal Center of Atlanta,
Inc., by providing listening, language, and the fundamental literacy skills for
deaf children, has expanded and continues to expand the educational and life
opportunities for the deaf children of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, The Auditory-Verbal Center of Atlanta,
Inc., is licensed to dispense hearing aids on a sliding scale fee to accommodate
the needs of all Georgians and has expanded its services to promote good hearing
for all Georgians, regardless of income, by providing hearing screening,
diagnostics, counseling, hearing aid management, telephone training, central
auditory processing, and classes designed to accommodate working and retired
adults; and
WHEREAS, The Auditory-Verbal Center of
Atlanta, Inc., is dedicated to helping all Georgians function successfully in
our hearing world.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the board
and staff of The Auditory-Verbal Center of Atlanta, Inc., for their dedication
and commitment to the hearing impaired citizens of Georgia and extend their
sincerest best wishes for continued success in the
future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of
the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Beth Mahaffey, co-founder of The
Auditory-Verbal Center of Atlanta, Inc.
