House Resolution
1959 By: Representatives Brooks of the 47th,
Holmes of the 48th, Post 1, Thomas of the 43rd, Post 1,
Orrock of the 51st, Dean of the 49th, and others
A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life of Maggie Arrington and expressing regret
at her passing; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Maggie Arrington was the devoted wife of George Arrington and the loving mother
of five children: Cynthia Wright, Elaine Daniel, Audrey Arrington, Joseph
Arrington, Sr., and Judge Marvin S. Arrington;
and
WHEREAS, she moved from Milledgeville, Georgia,
to Atlanta when she was six years old; and
WHEREAS,
she worked for 30 years as a maid to afford each of her children an advanced
college degree; and
WHEREAS, she was noted for her
baking, especially chocolate layer cakes and Japanese fruitcakes;
and
WHEREAS, when she worked the polls during
Atlanta elections, she took fresh baked goods to share with other volunteers,
and even the voters; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Arrington
was a woman with a strong work ethic and a generous heart and by her loving
example she uplifted and transformed all those around her;
and
WHEREAS, she will be missed
greatly.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the life of Maggie
Arrington and express to her family their sincere sympathy and
condolences.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk
of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of the late Mrs. Maggie
Arrington.
