A RESOLUTION

Commending Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and its 52 community based councils and recognizing Child Abuse Prevention Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, prevention of child abuse and neglect must be an essential part of any plan to end child abuse in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia is the only statewide private nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing child abuse in all of its forms; and

WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia was created in 1984 out of concern for the children of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia's statewide network of programs, trainings, resources, and support from Georgia's most comprehensive continuum of community based services dedicated to child abuse prevention; and

WHEREAS, 52 community based councils, chartered by Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, provide prevention awareness, education, and services in 65 counties throughout Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and its 52 chartered councils reach more than 4 million Georgians annually through these services; and

WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and its public and private partners strive to put child abuse prevention on everyone's agenda, encourage citizens to learn more about child abuse, ask citizens to support existing prevention programs, and create initiatives to prevent child abuse in their communities; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding efforts of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and its 52 community based chartered councils merit recognition and endorsement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Prevent Child Abuse Georgia for working tirelessly to prevent child abuse in Georgia and recognize Thursday, February 13, 2003, as Child Abuse Prevention Day at the state capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Prevent Child Abuse Georgia.
