House Resolution
279 By: Representatives Parrish of the
102nd, Morris of the 120th, Stephens of the

A RESOLUTION
Commending the tourism industry in Georgia and establishing
March 12, 2003, as "Georgia Tourism Day"; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, tourism annually generates over
$16.1 billion in direct expenditures; and
WHEREAS,
tourism contributes $645 million in state tax revenues for the great State of
Georgia; and
WHEREAS, tax revenues created by
tourist expenditures save each household in Georgia over $241.00 in state taxes;
and
WHEREAS, tourism creates and sustains jobs for
over 200,000 Georgians and tourism is economic development;
and
WHEREAS, tourism provides an excellent return
on investment. One dollar invested in state-wide tourism advertising and
promotion returns $190.00 to the private sector and $7.63 to the state in tax
revenues; and
WHEREAS, tourism is a clean industry
that enhances the quality of life within the local communities and the state and
creates the environment that makes Georgia a good place to live, work, and
play.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Georgia tourism
industry for the positive impact tourism has on the state of Georgia and all of
its citizens and establish March 12, 2003, as "Georgia Tourism
Day."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the
House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate
copies of this resolution to Joy Walstrum of the Tourism Development Alliance,
Ellen Archer of the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Rick
Layton of the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association, and Glen Cornell,
Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade, and Tourism.
