A RESOLUTION

Commending Robert J. Lenihan; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Robert J. Lenihan has long been recognized by the citizens of the State of Georgia as the personification of perfection in his mastery of matters of state and local taxation; and

WHEREAS, this native son of the City of Moultrie is an honest and dedicated public servant who strives for excellence in all his endeavors and whose primary concern is the financial welfare of Georgia and its citizens; and

WHEREAS, this beloved individual has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties throughout his career of peerless public service as deputy state revenue commissioner from 2002 to 2003, assistant state revenue commissioner from 1995 to 2002, executive assistant from 1976 to 1995, and special investigator from 1971 to 1976; and

WHEREAS, he is of a naturally quiet and retiring disposition and has placed himself into a position demanding the most public of performances, and his mastering of the substantive aspects of state and local taxation has brought an unmatched expertise to the operation and administration of the Department of Revenue; and

WHEREAS, the members of this body, and in particular those who worked closely with Bobby on so many taxing matters, will always admire his consistently thorough consideration of taxation issues presented to this deliberative body, and his integrity and reliability rightfully earned him our honor, respect, and trust over the years; and

WHEREAS, he has consistently demonstrated a solid commitment to the careful study of sensitive issues and proposed solutions and has quickly developed a reputation as an equitable, impartial leader whose decisions are governed by the rules of honesty and fair play and whose actions are marked by unmatched dignity, grace, and wisdom; and

WHEREAS, his unparalleled organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his acute sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community and state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Robert J. Lenihan for the almost three and one-half decades of effective, efficient, unselfish, and dedicated service that he has rendered on behalf of Georgia and extend to him their utmost appreciation for his having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Robert J. Lenihan.
