A RESOLUTION

Expressing support for the men and women of the United States Armed Forces; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the President of our nation ordered the United States Armed Forces to commence military operations against the forces of Saddam Hussein during the evening of March 19, 2003, under the code name of Operation Iraqi Freedom, in order to liberate Iraq, remove Saddam Hussein from power, and neutralize Iraq´s weapons of mass destruction; and

WHEREAS, the military forces of the United States and our allies are now engaged in combat operations, carrying out air, land, and sea attacks against Iraqi military targets; and

WHEREAS, the men and women of our military services have bravely gone far from their homes and loved ones and far across the world to risk their lives for their nation; and

WHEREAS, the hardships and sacrifices that these brave men and women have willingly undertaken on our behalf must of necessity both humble us and make us proud of them.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby expresses to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces a pledge of this body´s utmost support, heartfelt admiration, and deepest gratitude.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the adjutant general of the State of Georgia and as may be otherwise appropriate to convey the sense of this body to the leaders of our nation´s government and military forces.
