A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of A. Frank Wiegand, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on December 5, 2002, the citizens of Gainesville, Georgia, lost a highly respected community leader, A. Frank Wiegand, Jr., who contributed substantially to the quality of life throughout Hall County; and

WHEREAS, he was born on October 23, 1924, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and grew up in Wichita, Kansas, as the son of Bena and Arnold Frank Wiegand; and

WHEREAS, he served in World War II with the 361st infantry and was decorated for his valor with the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart; returned to the United States in 1945 and enrolled at Texas A&M University, becoming the first veteran to join its Cadet Corps; and later transferred to the University of Georgia where he graduated in finance; and

WHEREAS, he came to Gainesville in the summer of 1953 to open the first brokerage office for Courts & Company and since 1974 has been with A.G. Edwards & Sons where he was Vice President and Branch Manager of the Gainesville office; and

WHEREAS, his expertise and counsel was widely sought, and he joined the Riverside Board of Trustees in 1980 and was appointed Chairman in 1993, served on the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation Board, and was instrumental in developing many civic projects.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body expresses regret at the passing of A. Frank Wiegand, Jr. and conveys its sincerest sympathy to the members of his beloved family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Wiegand family.
