A RESOLUTION

Congratulating and commending Elder John Shelton Mikell upon the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination as a Primitive Baptist minister of the Gospel; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, John Shelton Mikell of Bulloch County has been an ordained Primitive Baptist minister of the Gospel since 1953; and

WHEREAS, Brother Mikell dedicated his life to the service of the Lord; and

WHEREAS, his charming smile and friendly demeanor have greeted many of God´s children in the doors of his churches; and

WHEREAS, many have learned to love the Lord and joined their Christian brothers and sisters in church membership under his pastorage; and

WHEREAS, he was born at Brooklet in Bulloch County in 1926 and is married to the former Mildred Jane Waters, with whom he has two children, Shera Jane and John S., Jr.; and

WHEREAS, he was ordained at Brooklet Church and has pastored the following Primitive Baptist churches in Georgia and Florida during his ministry: Fellowship Church, Brooklet; Vidalia Church, Vidalia; Brooklet Church, Brooklet; Valdosta Church, Valdosta; Miami Church, Cooper City, Florida; Faith Church, Savannah; Mt. Union Church, Ambrose; Oak Park Church, Oak Park; Statesboro Church, Statesboro; Mt. Olive Church, Tifton; and Metter Church, Metter; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that his record of service be recognized by this body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Elder John Shelton Mikell upon the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination as a Primitive Baptist minister of the Gospel and commend him for his contributions to the welfare of the communities he has served and this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Elder John Shelton Mikell.
