A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Boy Scout Week in conjunction with the 93rd
anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America were
incorporated on February 8, 1910, through the efforts of several men dedicated
to bettering youth, who conceived a program of outdoor activities that developed
skills in young boys and gave them a sense of enjoyment, fellowship, and a code
of conduct for everyday living; and
WHEREAS, the
Boy Scouts of America endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically,
mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced
in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have personal
values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help others;
understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental
systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and
understand our
nation´s
role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and
are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American society;
and
WHEREAS, thousands of volunteer leaders across
the United States, both men and women, are involved in the Boy Scout program,
serving in a variety of jobs from unit leaders to chairmen of troop committees,
committee members, merit badge counselors, and chartered organization
representatives; and
WHEREAS, it is only fitting
and proper that this organization be recognized for its positive contributions
to the lives of thousands of Georgians.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Boy Scouts of America and its members and leaders for
their many achievements and contributions to the welfare of this state during
their 93 years of corporate existence and hereby recognize the calendar week in
which February 8, 2003, occurs as "Boy Scout Week."
