A RESOLUTION
Recognizing District 48 Legislative Day at the Capitol on
February 20, 2003; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, on February 20, 2003, elected
officials from the state, county, and municipal levels, along with the
constituents they serve, will come together to declare and celebrate the success
and unique appeal of District 48 of the Georgia House of Representatives;
and
WHEREAS, District 48 comprises a vibrant,
beautiful community, rich in natural resources and competitive business;
and
WHEREAS, the progressive governments within
District 48 provide a positive environment for business growth through efficient
services and effective collaboration with developers to create new employment
opportunities; and
WHEREAS, multimodal
transportation culminates in District 48: home of Hartsfield International
Airport, hub for two of the
nation´s
largest railroads, networked to the compass by four interstate highways, and
southern terminus of MARTA; and
WHEREAS, with more
than 7,000 hotel rooms and bountiful exhibit and meeting spaces, including the
Georgia International Convention Center, District 48 is a powerful contributor
to
Atlanta´s
vital convention and hospitality industries;
and
WHEREAS, District 48 includes more than 850
manufacturing and distribution firms, the largest contiguous industrial park in
the eastern United States, plus more than 100,000 of the
area´s
125,000 acres remain available for development;
and
WHEREAS, District 48 legislators,
commissioners, mayors, and citizens are committed to working together to improve
the quality of life through initiatives like the Educational Wrap-around
Collaborative, which includes Parent University, Red Carpet Schools, and the
South Fulton Incubator Project; and
WHEREAS, with
abundant resources and the commitment from all sectors of the community to
continue to work cooperatively for quality economic development, the future of
District 48 has never looked more promising;
and
WHEREAS, the 2003 District 48 Legislative Day
at the Capitol is dedicated to the purpose of recognizing and celebrating the
vibrancy of the people of that district; their diversity and
commitment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and observe
District 48 Legislative Day at the Capitol on February 20, 2003, and heartily
welcome to the capitol the elected public officials and residents of District
48.
