A RESOLUTION
Commending Martha W. Ferguson; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Martha W. Ferguson has served as
the chief executive officer of the metropolitan Atlanta chapter of the American
Red Cross with the utmost ability and dedication and her vision for coordination
of Red Cross services with other Georgia chapters has become a model that states
throughout the nation now follow; and
WHEREAS, she
is a native of Webster Groves, Missouri; graduated magna cum laude from Judson
College in Marion, Alabama; and is the mother of two adult children; and she
re-entered the workforce in 1971, came up through the ranks, and has the
distinction of being the first female CEO of one of the largest Red Cross
chapters in the country; and
WHEREAS, Marti's
tremendous drive and energy have made the metropolitan Atlanta chapter a
national leader in volunteer recruitment, CPR and first aid certification,
HIV/AIDS education, and the primary provider of emergency services in the 15
county area; and
WHEREAS, her foresight inspired
the development of an emergency response plan and training Red Cross volunteers
to serve millions of visitors during the 1996 Olympics;
and
WHEREAS, her business acumen and savvy
management as the chief executive since 1992 enabled the organization to meet
shrinking donor resources, staff for multiple disasters, and restructure to
facilitate its major role as the state coordinating chapter for Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, her expertise and talent are
recognized and valued by various nonprofit, civic, and business associations on
which she serves and her accomplishments merit high
praise.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body commends Martha W. Ferguson on her superb
leadership with the metropolitan Atlanta chapter of the American Red Cross and
conveys best wishes on her retirement. BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and
directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Martha W.
Ferguson.
