House Resolution 69 By:
Representative Lane of the 101st
A RESOLUTION
Commending the Screven County High School football team on
its first state title and inviting the team and its coaches to appear before
this body; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the
Screven County High School football team won the school’s first_ever
gridiron state championship on December 20, 2002, as more than 7,000 fans packed
into Kelly Memorial Stadium to witness the Gamecocks in their finest hour in
school history; and
WHEREAS, these fabulous young
athletes concluded the regular season by finishing15_0, which was the first
unbeaten season since 1940 and a terrific school record;
and
WHEREAS, this tremendous triumph reflects the
amazing athletic ability, discipline, determination, and teamwork of these fine
players and the extraordinary training and skill of Head Coach Mark Daniel and
his highly experienced and dedicated staff;
and
WHEREAS, the state championship game determined
who is entitled to the bragging rights as the best team in the state for Class
AAA, and the Roosters cemented their claim for 2002 with a convincing 24_7 win
over the previously undefeated Dublin Fighting Irish;
and
WHEREAS, the Gamecocks’ incredible record
of achievements throughout the season generated a spirit of unity within the
school, community, and county and created wonderful memories that will be long
remembered by many and be cherished by the players
forever.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Screven
County High School football team on its first state title and invite the team
and its coaches to appear before this body to be heartily congratulated at a
time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House
of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
this resolution to Head Coach Mark Daniel.
