A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of Donald “Lance” Roland; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Donald “Lance” Roland will be long remembered by the many students, teachers, and staff at Gainesville High School where his leadership and ability were greatly admired and valued; and

WHEREAS, he was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and received a BS degree from Mars Hill College, a master’s degree from Clemson University, and a specialist degree in education from Lincoln Memorial University; and

WHEREAS, he was a defensive coordinator for the Red Elephants varsity football team and was a wonderful counselor who provided encouragement to students at all academic levels and offered confidential guidance on personal development issues; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his demanding career, Lance was an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church where he was a faithful participant in its services to the community ; and

WHEREAS, he was a loving husband to Janet Jones Roland and a dedicated father to two young children, Ralston Mason Roland and Grace Elizabeth Roland; and his family will cherish their memories forever.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express regret at the passing of Donald “Lance” Roland and convey their heartfelt sympathy to the members of his beloved family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Roland family.
