A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the Dia de la Mujer Latina health fesitval; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Dia de la Mujer Latina health fesitval will be held on May 3, 2003; and

WHEREAS, Dia de la Mujer Latina is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health awareness to the Latina community by providing an ethnic-specific education; and

WHEREAS, the health festival serves as a culturally appropriate setting for early detection screening and prevention care and provides resource information for follow-up care; and

WHEREAS, in 2002, more than 1,100 people participated in this important annual event, which this year is sponsored in part by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Office of the Mexican Consulate of Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, services which are provided free of charge include: breast exams, mammograms, pap smears, spinal cord testing, blood pressure screening, HIV tests, pregnancy tests, chiropractic exams, diabetes screening, dental and vision exams, immunization of children, and prostate cancer screening; and

WHEREAS, follow-up care is provided by Dia de la Mujer Latina and its team of volunteer healthcare providers; and

WHEREAS, Dia de la Mujer Latina is providing an invaluable service to people in need and in the process are saving many lives.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the Dia de la Mujer Latina health festival to be held on May 3, 2003, and commend Dia de la Mujer Latina for its exceptional commitment to the health and welfare of the Latina community of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dia de la Mujer Latina.
