House Resolution
808 By: Representatives Williams of the
128th and DeLoach of the 127th
A RESOLUTION
Honoring Mrs. Lillie Bell Gaulden; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lillie Bell Gaulden was
born on February 20, 1902; and
WHEREAS, she
celebrated her one hundred first birthday on February 20, 2003;
and
WHEREAS, she spent her life in the McIntosh and
Dorchester communities of Liberty County, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, she attended the historic Dorchester
Academy in Liberty County; and
WHEREAS, her parents
were dead by the time she was 11, but she survived and assisted in the rearing
of five younger siblings; and
WHEREAS, following in
the footsteps of her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she learned to
sew when she was about six years old; and
WHEREAS,
when her mother died, she inherited their three sewing machines which were her
prized possessions; and
WHEREAS, as a seamstress,
she worked for some of the most prominent families in the county;
and
WHEREAS, Mrs.
Gaulden´s
deep religious faith has been her enduring strength;
and
WHEREAS, she reared 12 children and made sure
they were well-grounded in the same faith that had been her fortress; she taught
them everything that was right and carried them to St. James Holiness Church of
God in Christ; and
WHEREAS, the most important
lessons that Mrs. Gaulden taught her children were a strong faith in God, a good
work ethic, and an appreciation for education;
and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Gaulden attributes her longevity
to "living right," and says, "Pray about everything. Fast and pray.";
and
WHEREAS, today, her greatest joy is her
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lillie Bell Gaulden is one of
Georgia´s
most treasured citizens, as well as a rare national treasure who has left a
remarkable legacy in Liberty County.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor Mrs. Lillie Bell Gaulden and extend to her their best and
kindest regards.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Lillie Bell Gaulden.
