A RESOLUTION
Commending the Southwest Georgia Regional Public Library
System and inviting certain library representatives to appear before the House
of Representatives; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, on October 29, 2002, the Southwest Georgia Regional Public Library System was named one of three library winners of the prestigious 2002 National Award from the Institute of Museum and Library Service in recognition of its superior public service; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest Georgia Regional Public Library System serves the citizens of Decatur, Miller, and Seminole counties and the library board members and staff are devoted to assisting lifelong learners and enriching family and community life in the region; and
WHEREAS, through partnerships with schools, businesses, social service agencies, and many other groups, this outstanding library system has encouraged residents of the tri-county area to participate in creative programs and improve their education and skills; and
WHEREAS, family literacy programs, computer training, access to the World Wide Web, student summer reading programs, bookmobile support for nursing homes and community centers, and cultural programs for teenagers contribute to the system´s excellent record; and
WHEREAS, the tremendous dedication and commitment of Director Susan S. Whittle, Librarians Tom Bush, Teri Maggio, and Susan Ralph, and their fine staff were steadfastly endorsed by their board members, and the national award honors their unity of purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Southwest Georgia Regional Public Library System and invite representatives of the board and the library to appear before this body at a time to be determined by the Speaker of the House.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Director Susan S. Whittle.
