A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Reverend James "JC" Shipman on the occasion of
his 20th anniversary celebration; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Reverend James "JC" Shipman has
served as the esteemed pastor of the historic Bolton Street Missionary Baptist
Church in Savannah, Georgia, for the past 20 years;
and
WHEREAS, Reverend Shipman has been an
extraordinary spiritual leader and a steadfast source of guidance throughout his
distinguished career with this great church;
and
WHEREAS, he has served his community and the
State of Georgia well; and
WHEREAS, a native of
Liberty County, Georgia, he is the youngest child of Deacon L. B. Shipman and
Evangelist Juanita Baker Shipman and the grandson of the noted pastor and civil
rights trailblazer Reverend W. C. Shipman;
and
WHEREAS, he is a graduate of the University of
the District of Columbia and the Bryant Theological Seminary and is a retired
United States civil servant with more than 32 years of military and civilian
service; and
WHEREAS, he is the founding President
of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Chapter of Blacks in Government, founding
President of region four Council of Blacks in Government, a member of the Board
of Directors of the Dorchester Improvement Association, President of the Liberty
County Branch of the NAACP, subscribing life member of the Ralph Mark Gilbert
Civil Rights Museum, and mayor of the City of Midway;
and
WHEREAS, Reverend
Shipman´s
many achievements will stand as symbols of dignity, pride, and honor for
generations to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the Reverend
James "JC" Shipman on the occasion of his 20th anniversary and express to him
their immense gratitude and respect.
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and
directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend James
"JC" Shipman.
