House Resolution 969
By: Representatives Jenkins of the 8th, Coleman of the 118th, Wix of the 33rd, Post 1, Porter of the 119th, Smyre of the 111th, and others

A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of the Honorable Ralph Twiggs; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Ralph Twiggs passed away on September 17, 2003, and was laid to rest in his beloved North Georgia mountains next to his wife, Lucille Hensley Twiggs, who preceded him in death in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Representative Twiggs was born in Hiawassee, Towns County, Georgia, on March 11, 1928, and he attended the Towns and Union County public schools and graduated from the Southern College of Pharmacy; and

WHEREAS, he was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1973 and continued to represent his mountain constituency for 30 consecutive years up to the time of his death, and although he was a leader in the House, serving as chairman of the Public Safety Committee and the Transportation Committee, he had a quiet, understated style, never seeking recognition for important legislation which only insiders knew he was instrumental in passing, and he was held in utmost esteem by his colleagues for his straightforward honesty in his dealings with everyone, whether of high estate or low; and

WHEREAS, he was a faithful parishioner of the McConnell Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of the Masons and Shriners and is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Twiggs and Beth Wright, and a stepson, Joe Hensley.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express regret at the passing of the Honorable Ralph Twiggs and convey deepest sympathy to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of the Honorable Ralph Twiggs.
