A BILL TO BE
ENTITLED AN ACT
To amend Article 1 of Chapter 6 of Title 40 of the Official
Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions relative to the
uniform rules of the road, so as to provide that between the hours of sunset and
sunrise, the driver and passengers in a motor vehicle stopped by a law
enforcement officer shall remain in the vehicle; to provide that the driver of
such vehicle shall turn the vehicle off and turn the interior lights on; to
provide for a penalty; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
Article 1 of Chapter 6 of Title 40 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions relative to the uniform rules
of the road, is amended by inserting at the end thereof the
following: "40-6-16. (a)
The driver and passengers in any motor vehicle stopped by a law enforcement
officer between the hour of sunset and the hour of sunrise shall remain in the
vehicle unless instructed to do otherwise by the law enforcement officer. The
driver of such vehicle shall turn off the engine of the vehicle and shall turn
on the interior lights of the vehicle. (b) Any person
found guilty of violating the provisions of this Code section shall be subject
to a fine in the amount of $150.00 for the first offense and $250.00 for each
subsequent
offense."
SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
repealed.
