Senate Resolution
1067 By: Senators Seabaugh of the 28th and Lee of the
29th
A RESOLUTION
Honoring and remembering the life of Mr. Johnny Brown; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia
lost a legendary figure in sports reporting when Johnny Brown, a long-time
sportswriter and editor for The Times-Herald, left this world on
March 13, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown´s
love of sports was evident at an early age, and he served as the sportswriter
for Newnan High School´s school newspaper and, while attending the
university, as a varsity football manager for the Bulldogs;
and
WHEREAS, he began his professional
sportswriting career at The Newnan Herald in 1946, and, after that paper
merged in 1947 with The Newnan Times to create The Times-Herald,
Mr. Brown began his 50 year tenure as sports editor;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown´s work and reporting
was zealously enjoyed by avid sports fans across this state;
and
WHEREAS, inarguably one of Georgia´s best
sportswriters, in 1996 he was honored by the Georgia Press Association for his
50 years of excellence in sportswriting, and throughout his career he remained a
professional in every way; and
WHEREAS, an active
member of his community, Mr. Brown served on both the City of Newnan and the
Coweta County school boards and was a Coweta County commissioner from 1973 to
1988.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE
that the members of this body honor and remember the life, public service, and
reporting of Mr. Johnny Brown and extend to his family their deepest
condolences.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate
copy of this resolution to the family of Johnny Brown.
