Senate Resolution 116

A RESOLUTION

Commending Robert Huefner on receiving the 2002 Wendy's High School Heisman Award; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Robert Huefner's many preeminent achievements, activities, and honors include a perfect 4.0 grade point average; a ranking of second in his high school graduating class; an impressive score of 1550 on the SAT; a National Merit Finalist; a three-time member and captain of the National Champion Science Olympiad Team; two-time captain of his soccer team; a letter in cross country; a letter in football for kicking; helping build two houses in Juarez, Mexico, through the First Presbyterian Church youth group mission trips; volunteering at a local hospital, nursing homes, and a soup kitchen; serving as class president; serving as copy editor of his school newspaper; attaining the high honor of Eagle Scout; serving as a member of the student council; serving as a voting member and officer of the Peachtree City Youth Advisory Board; being selected by the American Legion as the Senior Senator Delegate from Georgia as one of 96 students invited to Washington, D.C., where he met the President of the United States; and drafting a resolution while in Washington, D.C., protecting the American Flag, which passed the Boys Nation Senate; and

WHEREAS, Robert Huefner's future plans and ambitions include options for college education at Harvard, Duke, or Cornell, an ROTC college scholarship, and aspirations to become a military physician; and

WHEREAS, since 1994, the national Wendy's High School Heisman Award has been awarded to one male high school student and one female high school student, based on leadership in academics, athletics, and community service; and

WHEREAS, over 13,500 students were nominated nation wide for the 2002 Wendy's High School Heisman Award; and

WHEREAS, no student from Georgia has ever made it to the national level; and
WHEREAS, based on his many achievements as stated herein, on December 14, 2002, Robert Huefner was named one of only two National Award winners for the 2002 Wendy's High School Heisman Award; and

WHEREAS, as the Wendy's High School Heisman National Award Winner, Robert Huefner was recognized during a live telecast of the Heisman Memorial Trophy Awards Show on ESPN and received a crystal trophy and $2,500 for his high school.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Robert Huefner for his outstanding achievements.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Robert Huefner.
