A RESOLUTION

Recognizing February 8, 2003, as National Good Turn Day in the Boy Scouts of America and commending the Flint River Council on its Scouting for Food project; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, February 8 is the national anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America which was founded in 1911, and National Good Turn Day was established some 20 years ago to celebrate annually the public service mission of scouting on that day; and

WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America was designed to instill in the nation's youth the moral and ethical principles and the habits, practices, and attitudes that are conducive to good character, citizenship, and health; and

WHEREAS, on February 8, 2003, the Georgia Flint River Council which embraces eight counties (Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Spalding, Butts, Pike, Lamar, and Upson) will celebrate National Good Turn Day with its Scouting for Food project and scout troops will collect and distribute food donations to the Salvation Army and the Food Pantry; and

WHEREAS, these programs foster in the youth of our state characteristics that strengthen communities and contribute to the health and welfare of Georgia's less fortunate citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize February 8, 2003, as National Good Turn Day and commend the Georgia Flint River Council on its wonderful public service project: Scouting for Food.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Verna A. Funk, Coweta District Chair.
