Senate Resolution
1199 By: Senators Meyer von Bremen of the 12th, Brown
of the 26th, Blitch of the 7th, Dean of the 31st, Thompson of the 33rd and

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the Honorable Connie Stokes; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Honorable Connie
Stokes was first elected to the Georgia General Assembly´s Senate in 1994
and she has capably represented her constituents, her family, and this state
with honor and integrity; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stokes
is a successful and enterprising businesswoman practicing in real estate and is
a distinguished former president of the Women´s Council of National
Association of Real Estate Brokers; and
WHEREAS, as
a state senator, Ms. Stokes lends her strong voice and tenacious support in the
call for proper and affordable housing for all Georgians and is a tireless
advocate on behalf of everyday citizens trying to realize the American dream of
home ownership; and
WHEREAS, as chairperson of the
Senate Committee on Health and Human Services and Governor Roy Barnes´s
Senate Floor Leader, her superior leadership skills allowed her to lead the
fight to ensure the availability of quality, affordable health care for all the
residents of this state; and
WHEREAS, she has also
dutifully and skillfully served as a member of the Senate Banking and Financial
Institutions Committee, the Senate Insurance and Labor Committee, and the Senate
Special Judiciary Committee and time and again has sponsored or cosponsored
legislation that has had a significant and positive impact upon the lives of
those living and working in this state;
and
WHEREAS, she is a dedicated member of the
American Red Cross Advisory Board, the Women´s Resource Center to End
Domestic Abuse Board, the International Women´s Forum, and the National
Congress of Black Women; and
WHEREAS, she is a
graduate of the Georgia State University School of Business and is married to
the love of her life, Dr. James A. Stokes, and together they share a loving
devotion for their three sons and their glorious grandson,
Aiden.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE
that the members of this body recognize the Honorable Connie Stokes for her
selfless service to this state and its citizens and recognize her as one of the
foremost advocates and experts of health care issues in this state and express
their best wishes for future success and
happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate
copy of this resolution to the Honorable Connie Stokes.
