Senate Resolution
378 By: Senators Zamarripa of the 36th, Gillis of the

A RESOLUTION
Expressing regret at the loss of Private First Class Diego
Rincon; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Private
First Class Diego Rincon of Conyers, Georgia, will be long remembered as a
valiant patriot who was loyal to the country that welcomed him and his family as
immigrants from Colombia in 1989 and who repaid his adopted country with the
ultimate sacrifice of his life in the war against terrorism in Iraq;
and
WHEREAS, he was 5 years old when his father,
George Rincon, moved his wife and two sons to the United States to escape the
terrorism of the drug cartel in his native Colombia; and the family settled in
rural Rockdale County and enjoyed a life of freedom and safety;
and
WHEREAS, he graduated from Salem High School in
2001 where he had been an actor, musician, and cheerleader and responded to the
terrorism of September 11 by enlisting in the Army where he became a member of
the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) and was among the 15,000 members of his
division deployed to wage war in Iraq; and
WHEREAS,
tragically, he and three other members of his 1st Brigade died at the hands of a
suicide bomber at a military checkpoint near Najaf on Saturday, March 29, 2003;
and
WHEREAS, in a recent letter to his family,
Diego Rincon poignantly expressed his love, honor, and duty for his country and
the principles for which it stands; and the intense patriotism, commitment, and
intrepid courage of this young soldier inspires us
all.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE
that the members of this body regret the loss of Private First Class Diego
Rincon of the United States Army who honorably gave his life for his adopted
country and convey their heartfelt sympathy to the members of his beloved family
at this time of deep personal grief.
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit
an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Rincon family.
