Senate Resolution 429

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending James W. Oxendine on the occasion of his receipt of the Boy Scout Distinguished Citizen Award; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Judge James W. Oxendine recently received the Boy Scout Distinguished Citizen Award from the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, Judge Oxendine is a native of Fairmont, North Carolina, who attended Vanderbilt University and Stetson Law School; and

WHEREAS, he was a respected and successful attorney, practicing labor law in Norcross, Georgia, prior to his appointment to the Gwinnett County Superior Court bench in 1992 and he now serves as a Senior Judge of the Superior Courts; and

WHEREAS, Judge Oxendine served his country with distinction as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1957 and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserve where he attained the rank of Colonel in 1990 before leaving military service; and

WHEREAS, he has given generously of his time and efforts in civic affairs, including service with the Duluth Rotary Club, work with the Georgia Heart Fund, and membership on the Georgia Commission on Indian Affairs, the Georgia Parks Authority, the Governor´s Study Committee on Certainty in Sentencing, and the board of trustees of the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body recognizes and commends James W. Oxendine and expresses its appreciation for his many important contributions to his community and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Judge Oxendine.
