A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and expressing congratulations to the City of Bowdon and the citizens of the town on the occasion of the town's 150th anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the town of Bowdon was founded in 1853 in Carroll County, Georgia, and subsequently incorporated by the Georgia legislature; and

WHEREAS, the town is named in honor of Franklin W. Bowdon, once a representative in the United States Congress; and

WHEREAS, the town has become a vital and important part of Carroll County and western Georgia and a wonderful and welcoming home for the citizens who reside there; and

WHEREAS, the Bowdon Area Historical Society has played a leading role in organizing festivities to be held on July 31, 2003, and August 1, 2003, to celebrate the town's 150th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this body join in the recognition of this significant historical milestone.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body recognizes and expresses congratulations to the City of Bowdon and the citizens of the town on the occasion of the town's 150th anniversary.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the governing authority of the City of Bowdon.
