A RESOLUTION
Honoring and expressing appreciation to former Speaker of
the House Thomas B. Murphy; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Honorable Thomas B. Murphy served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1961 until the convening of the 2003 session; and
WHEREAS, he served as Speaker of the House from January 14, 1974 through January 12, 2003; and
WHEREAS, during World War II Mr. Murphy served his country with honor and courage in the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, he is widely recognized as one of the wisest and most able members of the Georgia Bar; and
WHEREAS, political allies and opponents alike have come to respect Mr. Murphy for his honor, candor, commitment to principle and devotion to the best interests of the State of Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body hereby express to former Speaker Murphy its deep and abiding appreciation for his many years of dedicated and distinguished service to the State of Georgia and its people.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to former Speaker Murphy.
