Senate Resolution 549

A RESOLUTION

Commending, congratulating, and saluting Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services and their members; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on June 23, 2002, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services Engines 1 and 11, Rescues 5, 4, 11 and Battalion 1 responded to a report of a person shot in Norcross; and

WHEREAS, Engine 1 arrived one minute after dispatch and found two gun shot patients; and

WHEREAS, one of the patients was a Norcross police officer, who had suffered a gunshot wound to his head; and

WHEREAS, Engine 1 initiated ALS care and had the officer ready for transport when Rescue 5 arrived six minutes later; and

WHEREAS, both crews continued emergency care during his transport to the hospital; and

WHEREAS, this police officer has made a miraculous recovery and has even visited Station 1 several times over the past months to thank them; and

WHEREAS, all units on the scene performed and administered outstanding medical care as a team to all patients, resulting in at least one life saved; and

WHEREAS, the doctors and the family acknowledge that had it not been for the prompt, skilled care and rapid transport to the emergency room, the outcome may have been different; and

WHEREAS, these units were nominated by Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services for a Unit Citation because of their willingness to perform the job at hand without hesitation and working as a team in a stressful, life-threatening situation; and
WHEREAS, a Unit Citation will be awarded to an entire unit whose outstanding efforts reflect teamwork, cooperation, and support of the Mission of Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services; and

WHEREAS, in the award of the Unit Citation, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services recognized: Kevin Buice, Michael Hughes, Wes Ulrich, Billy Clark, Mike Martin, Charles Wells, Jason Grady, Wayne Mooney, Ken Wilson, Jason Gray, David Moore, David Herrick, and Mark Peters.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate these members of Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services for the actions that led to their receipt of the Unit Citation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.
