ADOPTED SENATE

A RESOLUTION

Designating the William Ira (W.I.) Still, Jr., Highway; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, William Ira (W.I.) Still, Jr., was an esteemed and highly valued member of the community of Loganville, Georgia, in Gwinnett County; and

WHEREAS, he was born on January 21, 1910, in the Youth community of Walton County; married Emmie Sue Lacey from Stephens County; and established a general mercantile store in Loganville with the Lacey family during 1932; and

WHEREAS, this well known store operated with great success over 50 years serving the Loganville area citizens by selling farming equipment, tools, fuel, groceries, produce, and various sundry household items; and

WHEREAS, the store was a special community gathering place where local families shopped, shared community news, and exchanged ideas and opinions on the events of the day and it generated a significant influence on the local economy and the lives of residents; and

WHEREAS, William Ira (W.I.) Still, Jr., loved his community and served it well until his death, and it is appropriate that he be remembered and honored for his public service.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of SR 10 in Gwinnett County that runs between Rosebud Road and the Walton County line be designated the William Ira (W.I.) Still, Jr., Highway and the Department of Transportation is directed to place and maintain appropriate markers.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the commissioner of transportation and the family of William Ira Still, Jr.
