Commending the City of Swainsboro on being named a 2004 City of Excellence; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the City of Swainsboro, Georgia was named a 2004 City of Excellence by the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Trend Magazine; and

WHEREAS, this wonderful community has been named a Certified City of Ethics; and

WHEREAS, United States highways U.S. 1, which stretches from the tip of Maine to Key West, Florida, and U.S. 80, which travels from Georgia´s Tybee Island to San Diego, California, two of this nation´s most famous highways, intersect in Swainsboro and, as such, has compelled the city to choose as its official theme "Where Main Streets Meet"; and

WHEREAS, Swainsboro is a thriving and comfortable community noted for offering an outstanding quality of life to its residents and its world famous "Pine Tree Festival"; and

WHEREAS, the city boasts of two top flight academic institutions in East Georgia College and Swainsboro Technical College; and

WHEREAS, the city is home to three highly valuable industrial parks in Industrial Park West, Industrial Park East, and Pathway Technology Park; and

WHEREAS, Swainsboro thrives under the able and confident leadership of Mayor Ricky Stevens, Mayor Pro Tem Donald Jenkins, City Councilpersons Douglas Overstreet, Rita Faulkner, Johnny Ray Stafford, Cleve Edenfield, and Sandra Stroud, and City Administrator Al L. Lawson.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body commends the City of Swainsboro, Georgia, for being named a 2004 City of Excellence.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the City of Swainsboro.
