BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Chapter 5 of Title 46 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to telephone and telegraph service, so as to provide for requirements with
respect to the provision of cellular telephone service; to repeal conflicting
laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Chapter
5 of Title 46 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to telephone
and telegraph service, is amended by adding a new article at the end thereof, to
be designated Article 6, to read as follows:
"ARTICLE
6
46-5-210.
Each
provider of cellular telephone service in this state shall, with respect to any
new or renewal contract or agreement for cellular telephone service sold in this
state after July 1, 2005, provide to the subscriber at the time of sale a
detailed map of the service area in this state that identifies specifically any
and all unserved areas in this state accompanied by a written statement
regarding when such provider expects to provide service in such unserved area.
No area shall be included in a service area by such provider unless such
provider has adequate power and an adequate number of cellular transmission
towers or facilities to prevent poor signal or service lapses within such
area."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
