RESOLUTION
Commending
R. T. Godfrey on the occasion of his retirement from service on the Austell City
Council; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
after 13 memorable years of service on the Austell City Council, Mr. R. T.
Godfrey has retired from public office; and
WHEREAS,
before becoming a member of the council, Mr. Godfrey honorably served his
country as a chief petty officer in the United States Naval Reserves and had a
distinguished 29 year career with CSX Railroad; and
WHEREAS,
elected to office after a friend urged him to run, Mr. Godfrey helped lead
Austell to greater growth and prosperity; and achievements of the city during
his tenure include the building of the bridge on Bankhead Highway and the
purchase of the Threadmill Mall Complex; and
WHEREAS,
a humble and generous gentleman, Mr. Godfrey was always willing to go out of his
way to serve his beloved community, going so far as to donate his salary to help
fund the Christmas bonus program for city employees; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Godfrey has always been greatly respected as a thoughtful and responsible
leader, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this body appropriately
recognize his 13 years of committed service to his city and state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to commend Mr. R. T. Godfrey for his many years of
outstanding service as a member of the Austell City Council and to express their
best wishes on the occasion of his retirement from public office.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. R. T.
Godfrey.
