RESOLUTION
Commending
Ellis Wood and recognizing him as the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of
Commerce 2006 Business Leader of the Year; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ellis Wood, owner of Ellis Wood Contractors, has been named the
Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce 2006 Business Leader of the Year;
and
WHEREAS,
he is deserving of such a prestigious honor because of his unwavering commitment
to his community and to others, which has been shown by such acts as his sending
rescue crews with food, supplies, building materials, and equipment, as well as
volunteers, to victims of hurricane Hugo in 1999, hurricanes Fran and Floyd,
hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and to victims of severe tornadoes in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Ellis Wood is a beacon for economic vitality with his diligent support and
involvement in the Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport, which is a major
attraction to businesses considering locating to the area; and
WHEREAS,
he is on the board of directors for the Guido Evangelistic Ministries, a
faithful deacon at the First Baptist Church, involved in Angel Flight, and
instrumental in helping local law enforcement agencies in many areas, including
offering the use of his helicopter; and
WHEREAS,
he has also served on the Ogeechee Area Hospice board of directors, was
appointed to the State Board of Corrections in 2003 by Governor Sonny Perdue,
was named a "Hometown Hero" by Savannah television station WTOC, was honored as
the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Humanitarian of the Year by the Statesboro
Herald, and recognized as the Rotary Citizen of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
in all that he is and all that he does, Ellis Wood truly sets a higher bar for
the rest of us; therefore it is abundantly fitting and proper that the
outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Ellis Wood for his faithful service to his community and
recognize him as 2006 Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce Business
Leader of the Year.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ellis Wood.
