A RESOLUTION

Commending David Foster, Director/Fire Chief of the DeKalb County Fire and Rescue Department; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, DeKalb County Fire Chief David Foster was awarded the DeKalb County Fire and Rescue Medal of Honor for his brave actions on August 11, 2005; and

WHEREAS, this distinguishing honor was bestowed on Chief Foster in recognition of his actions above and beyond the call of duty wherein he risked his own life to ensure the safety of other rescue and law enforcement personnel; and

WHEREAS, on August 11, 2005, a dispatch call went out concerning the shooting of a City of Pine Lake police officer during a traffic stop, and in response to the call, Chief Foster was the first to arrive on the scene; and

WHEREAS, dispatch had indicated the scene was safe, but Chief Foster assessed the situation to be hostile and dangerous, and he properly warned dispatch that public safety units should not enter the scene; and

WHEREAS, while continuing in the unsafe hostile zone, Chief Foster responded to the side of the wounded officer and assisted in pulling him into the back of a police vehicle and driving him to the rescue vehicles which were stationed in the safe zone; and

WHEREAS, Chief Foster took action without regard for his personal safety, and his actions provided the wounded officer with his only chance of survival and potentially saved the lives of other public safety personnel by warning them of the unsafe zone; and

WHEREAS, Chief Foster has brought honor upon not only himself but also the DeKalb County Fire and Rescue Department and DeKalb County; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that this heroic public servant be recognized by this body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend DeKalb County Fire Chief David Foster for his selfless and heroic contributions to the welfare of his fellow public safety officers, his community, and this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Fire Chief David Foster.
