A RESOLUTION

Remembering and honoring the life of Thomas L. "Tom" Bower II; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas L. "Tom" Bower II was born on March 30, 1926, to loving parents Thomas L. and Selena Smith Bower; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Mr. Bower immediately enlisted in the United States Navy where he served with honor and courage as a radioman on the destroyer escort USS Farquhar DE-139 during World War II; and

WHEREAS, after returning home and entering college, he met the love of his life, Miss Shirley Louise Pippel, with whom he shared over 54 years of wedded bliss; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bower followed in his father's footsteps, entering the oil business and eventually becoming owner of Clipper Petroleum, Inc. in Gainesville, Georgia, which has become one of the largest petroleum distributors in the State of Georgia under his leadership; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bower contributed greatly to youth sports, helping to make the Roswell Recreation and Parks Department one of the preeminent recreation programs in the state, and, as a coach, touched the lives of countless children in Florida and Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he was a respected and admired businessman and community leader, a great patriot who enjoyed his DE-139 reunions, an animal lover who will be sorely missed by his loyal friend Brownie, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; and

WHEREAS, both the Roswell and Gainesville communities and the State of Georgia lost a most estimable citizen and public servant with the passing of Mr. Thomas L. "Tom" Bower II.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Mr. Thomas L. "Tom" Bower II and extend their most sincere condolences to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Thomas L. "Tom" Bower II.
