House Resolution 1659

A RESOLUTION

Commending Jeff Dillard for his role in saving the life of Kenny Edwards and inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, when a recent crisis struck the Georgia Power General Services Headquarters Repair Shop in Forest Park, Georgia, employee Jeff Dillard, along with Matt Dettmering, Arthur Page, Thomas Sellers, and Vincent Washington, rose to the occasion to valiantly save the life of co-worker Kenny Edwards; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards was working in a motor test pit when a sudden explosion flung him against a metal beam, knocking him unconscious and stopping his heart; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Page immediately rushed to the aid of the severely burned Mr. Edwards, swiftly extinguishing the fire and cutting off Mr. Edwards's shirt with a pocketknife; and

WHEREAS, after finding no pulse, Mr. Sellers and Mr. Dillard cautiously moved Mr. Edwards into a proper position for Mr. Dillard to perform CPR until paramedics arrived; and

WHEREAS, using a recently installed defibrillator, Mr. Washington administered shocks to Mr. Edwards and succeeded in reviving his heart; and

WHEREAS, with a cool head and a calm determination, Mr. Dettmering called 911 and reported the details of this unfortunate accident and the condition of its victim; and

WHEREAS, swiftly and selflessly coming to the aid of a colleague in peril, the life saving actions of these five extraordinary gentlemen are a testament to the power of heroism.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to commend Jeff Dillard for his heroism and thank him for his role in rescuing the life of Kenny Edwards.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Jeff Dillard is invited to the House of Representatives for purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House.
