RESOLUTION
Commending
Dr. Jimmy C. Stokes; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
during the course of his illustrious career as a teacher and administrator, Dr.
Jimmy C. Stokes, principal of Monroe Area High School, has touched countless
lives with his wisdom, kindness, and passion for learning; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Stokes completed undergraduate studies at Middle Georgia College and the
University of Georgia before earning his Master of Education and a doctorate in
education from the University of Georgia and later receiving a Master of Public
Administration from West Georgia College; and
WHEREAS,
he has taught chemistry at a number of institutions, including the University of
Georgia, Clayton Junior College, El Camino College in California, West Georgia
College, and Murray County High School, and has published several journal
articles and books related to chemistry and education; and
WHEREAS,
his administrative career began at Murray County High School, where he was named
assistant principal in 1992, and he served as principal at Haralson County and
Greene-Taliaferro High Schools before taking his current position in 2001;
and
WHEREAS,
at Monroe Area High School, Dr. Stokes has earned great esteem for his strong,
inspiring leadership and his ability to unite many different factions within the
community; and
WHEREAS,
so widely respected and admired is he that he was named Georgia Principal of the
Year by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP) and
MetLife Insurance; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Stokes currently serves as president of the Georgia Association of
Educational Leaders in addition to his duties at Monroe Area High School;
and
WHEREAS,
outside of his demanding career in education, Dr. Stokes is a devoted family man
to his wife, Patricia W. Stokes, and his two daughters, and is highly active in
his church and a variety of civic organizations; and
WHEREAS,
considering the enormous contributions Dr. Stokes has made to education in
Georgia, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this body appropriately
recognize this exceptional teacher and leader.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in commending Dr. Jimmy C. Stokes on his many years of
extraordinary work in education and thank him for his invaluable contributions
to Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Jimmy C.
Stokes.
