RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Mr. Eddie Delton Hughes; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Eddie Delton Hughes of Gainesville was born and raised in Hopewell,
Virginia; and
WHEREAS,
after attending Virginia Tech on a football scholarship, Mr. Hughes served his
country honorably for four years a member of the United States Air Force and
later attended the College of William and Mary; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hughes began a highly distinguished career in law enforcement in 1959 when
he became a Virginia state trooper; in 1962, he joined the Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, and Firearms of the United States Treasury Department, where he retired
in 1983 as special agent in charge of the Organized Crime Division of the Bureau
of ATF; and
WHEREAS,
during the course of this extraordinary career, Mr. Hughes received numerous
honors, including a Special Commendation for Valor in the line of duty in 1970
and the Distinguished Service Award upon his retirement; and
WHEREAS,
he later worked at Browns Bridge Marine in Gainesville as a sales manager;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hughes was a pillar of his community who served his neighbors as a member of
the Board of Lake Lanier Association and the Governor's Advisory Committee on
the Tri-State Water Commission; and
WHEREAS,
he also served as president of the Korean War Veterans of Georgia and was a
faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hughes leaves behind a loving and devoted family, including his wife of 53
years, Ann Holsclaw Hughes; his daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and Chuck
Hull; his sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Sherri Hughes and Andrew and Karen
Hughes; his grandchildren, Charlotte and Alex Hull and Davis, Grant, and Leah
Hughes; his step-grandchildren, Brian McWhorter and Amber Hughes; and his
sister, Shirley Hughes Seiling; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia lost a most estimable citizen on February 5, 2006, with the passing of
Mr. Eddie Delton Hughes.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Mr.
Eddie Delton Hughes and extend their most sincere condolences to his family and
friends.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Ann
Holsclaw Hughes.
