A RESOLUTION

Designating the Baxter Shavers Memorial Intersection; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on April 14, 1978, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens in the untimely passing of Chief Deputy Baxter Shavers of the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department; and

WHEREAS, this native son of Catoosa County was an honest and dedicated public servant who strived for excellence in all his endeavors and whose primary concern was the welfare and safety of the citizens of Catoosa County and who was recognized as a man of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the administration of justice and sound principles of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, he was tragically killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a dangerous armed robbery suspect; and

WHEREAS, the untimely passing of this unselfish man left an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family, friends, and community and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their gratitude for the unique and often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement officers on behalf of the citizens of this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Highway 2, Battlefield Parkway, with Three Notch Road in the unincorporated area of Catoosa County be designated as the Baxter Shavers Memorial Intersection.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to place and maintain appropriate markers designating the Baxter Shavers Memorial Intersection.
