A RESOLUTION

Creating the House Study Committee on the Restructuring of Rockdale County Government; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the local Act of the General Assembly creating the Board of Commissioners for Rockdale County was approved on March 4, 1977; and

WHEREAS, Rockdale County has been through many changes in the nearly 30 years since the adoption of its form of government, and the time has come for another careful study to determine if a reorganization of the countýs government could provide a government more representative of the countýs citizens and more efficient in the delivery of government services for the citizens of the county; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Rockdale County would be well served if a distinguished committee took a critical look at what changes, if any, might best serve the residents of the county.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that there is created the House Study Committee on the Restructuring of Rockdale County Government. The committee shall consist of the following members: two members each shall be appointed by members of the House of Representatives who shall be members who make up the Rockdale County delegation in the House, and two members each shall be appointed by the commissioners of Rockdale County. Such officers may appoint themselves to serve on the committee. The chairperson of the Rockdale County delegation in the House of Representatives, or his or her designee, shall serve as chairperson of the committee. The chairperson shall call all meetings of the committee.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall undertake a study of the conditions, needs, issues, and problems mentioned above or related thereto and recommend any action or legislation the committee deems necessary or appropriate. The committee may conduct such meetings at such places and at such times as it may deem necessary or convenient to enable it to exercise fully and effectively its powers, perform its duties, and accomplish the objectives and purposes of this resolution. All funds necessary to carry out the provisions of this resolution shall come from funds appropriated to the House of Representatives. In the event the committee makes a report of its findings and recommendations, with suggestions for proposed legislation, if any, such report shall be made on or before December 31, 2006. The committee shall stand abolished on December 31, 2006.
