A
RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Honorable George Arthur Horkan, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
on February 2, 2005, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most
distinguished citizens with the passing of Honorable George Arthur Horkan, Jr.;
and
WHEREAS,
he has long been recognized by the citizens of Colquitt County for the vital
role that he has played in leadership and jurisprudence and his deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
this native son of Moultrie diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable
hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as
evidenced dramatically by his over 20 years of superlative service as Judge of
the Superior Court of Colquitt County; and
WHEREAS,
this extraordinary jurist served as Moultrie Municipal Court Judge from 1957 to
1969, Superior Court Judge with the Southern Judicial Circuit from 1972 to 1994,
Chief Judge of the Southern Judicial Circuit from 1979 to 1994, and as Senior
Judge of the Superior Courts of Georgia since 1995, and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of his community earned him the respect and admiration of his
colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
the untimely passing of this generous, kind, and devoted family man leaves an
unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and
friends.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Honorable George Arthur Horkan, Jr.; and commend him for a lifetime of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service.
