RESOLUTION
Commending
House Speaker Emeritus Terry Coleman; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
since 1972, House Speaker Emeritus Terry Coleman has been one of the most
distinguished members of the House of Representatives, faithfully striving for
the betterment of House District 144 and for all of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Dodge County, he is a graduate of Reinhardt College and the Woodrow
Wilson College of Law and is employed with Coleman and Company Benefits;
and
WHEREAS,
as Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 147th General Assembly during
2003 and 2004, he secured a lasting place in Georgia history and gained a solid
reputation for his inspiring leadership, diplomacy, and immense legislative
skill; and
WHEREAS,
he currently serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, the House
Committee on Insurance, and the House Committee on Transportation;
and
WHEREAS,
a devoted family man to his wife, Carol Cofield Coleman, and his two children
and two grandchildren, Speaker Emeritus Coleman is a pillar of his community,
and among his many activities, he has been a member of the Eastman Volunteer
Fire Department for 22 years and is a faithful member of the First Methodist
Church of Eastman; and
WHEREAS,
the determined leadership of Speaker Emeritus Coleman has been a tremendous
asset to the people of this state, and as he completes his long and illustrious
career with the House of Representatives, it is most fitting and proper for this
body to pay tribute to the countless contributions of this exceptional
Georgian.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to commend House Speaker Emeritus Terry Coleman on his
extraordinary service to his body and to the people of Georgia and to extend
their best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Speaker
Emeritus Terry Coleman.
