A RESOLUTION

Honoring and commending Pastor Micheal Benton; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Pastor Micheal Benton has blessed the distinguished congregation of Fairfield Baptist Church with his compassionate and inspiring spiritual guidance for nearly three decades; and

WHEREAS, he realized his calling into the ministry at a very early age and as a young lad would stand on an old box outside the church window watching the strong southern ministers filled with the Holy Spirit, delivering powerful sermons; and

WHEREAS, being continuously drawn by the same Holy Spirit, God called him into the ministry on May 29, 1975; and

WHEREAS, he preached his first public sermon at the age of 26 and served as an associate minister at Big Miller Grove Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, this conduit for spirit of Christ was ordained in 1975 and became pastor of Fairfield Baptist Church in June 1977; and

WHEREAS, during his early years in the ministry, he became an outstanding orator, and his anointed gift of oratory and his love of expounding the Word continue to draw men and women of all ages to Christ Jesus; and

WHEREAS, his Bible-based, powerful sermons are directed towards reaching those who are lost and teaching the saved how to live and serve the Almighty; and

WHEREAS, his spiritual gifts of exegesis and hermeneutics are truly a blessing to the members of the Fairfield Baptist Church as well as other local and out of town churches; and

WHEREAS, he received his Bachelor of Arts and Associate of Arts degrees in Biblical Education from the Beulah Heights College of Divinity, is certified by the Evangelical Training Association to teach Biblical certificate courses, and is presently completing a masteŕs degree in Biblical Education at Great Commission Seminary in Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership and ministry, Fairfield Baptist Church has grown from a membership of 200 to approximately 3,000, and has birthed many ministries including the opening of two new facilities on the Fairfield campus in 2002; and

WHEREAS, in the near future, a 2,500 seat sanctuary will be built to accommodate the ever-increasing congregation that continues to flock to hear this humble servant; and

WHEREAS, as a visionary, he foresees Fairfield Baptist Church becoming a campus that will minister to and serve the needs not only of the membership but the community as a whole; and

WHEREAS, he is married to ÝVonne Benton, his childhood sweetheart and a graduate of Clark College in Atlanta with a bacheloŕs degree in psychology; and

WHEREAS, he is a loving and devoted father to six children: Keith, Nzinga, Yohance, Oya, Nadira, and Shani; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Micheal Benton is a man called to action by God who has touched the lives of countless numbers of Georgians who are filled with the Spirit because of his work in the ministry, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor and commend Pastor Micheal Benton for faithfully and passionately devoting his time and talents to ministering to his community and for continuing to make invaluable contributions to the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Pastor Micheal Benton.
