RESOLUTION
Commending
the CDC Foundation and declaring May 4, 2005, the 10th Anniversary of the CDC
Foundation in Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the year 2005 marks the 10th anniversary of the CDC Foundation, and the
Foundation celebrates a decade of heroes and a decade of helping the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) do more, faster; and
WHEREAS,
the CDC Foundation recognizes heroes who have contributed their time, talent,
innovation, and resources to fight threats to health and safety by supporting
CDC programs; and
WHEREAS,
established by Congress, the Foundation began operating in 1995 as an
independent, nonprofit entity committed to forging effective partnerships
between CDC and individuals, foundations, and corporations to fight threats to
health and safety. The Foundation can accept funding and responsibly create
programs that help donors and CDC scientists achieve their common goals;
and
WHEREAS, in
the first 10 years of operation, the CDC Foundation has raised more than $100
million in resources to help CDC do more, faster. These gifts range from $1 to
$10 million and come from international organizations, foundations,
corporations, and from people who learned about
CDĆs
amazing work and wanted to help; and
WHEREAS,
for more than 50 years, CDC has been this
countrýs
leading organization in addressing public health threats and in preventing and
controlling infectious and chronic diseases, injuries, workplace hazards,
disabilities, and environmental threats; and
WHEREAS,
headquartered in Atlanta, CDC plays a significant role in
Georgiás
public health industry and the
statés
economy by employing thousands of research professionals, technicians, and
support teams at dozens of facilities and offices throughout the state of
Georgia and by collaborating with
Georgiás
state and local health agencies, research institutions, nonprofit organizations,
and other public health partners.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in commending the untiring dedication of the CDC Foundation on
behalf of the health and safety of the citizens of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives declares May 4, 2005, the
10th Anniversary of the CDC Foundation in Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby
authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to
the CDC Foundation.
