A RESOLUTION

Commending Mary K. Brittain, D.C.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mary K. Brittain, D.C. was born in Leeds, Alabama, a small town just outside Birmingham, where she rode horses on the farm; and

WHEREAS, her father was a dentist, and "Dr. Mary," as her patients call her, helped him in his practice and assisted in making patients comfortable; and

WHEREAS, those who have known her from the time she was a young girl say that she has always taken care of others and, indeed, she has spent her entire life trying to help people and to make them feel better; and

WHEREAS, she graduated in September, 1985 from Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia, with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and entered private practice opening her first office in Midtown Atlanta, where she began her community outreach work; and

WHEREAS, in 1993, she moved her practice to Lenox Pointe Office Park in Buckhead and remained in that location until December, 2005; and

WHEREAS, throughout her years of practice, she has found time to participate in numerous outreach and community service organizations, including Alter-Care, the nonprofit alternative health care clinic she founded and of which she served as president, which offered free chiropractic treatment, massage therapy, and counseling services, as well as a caring social network for people living with HIV and AIDS, from 1990 through 1998; and

WHEREAS, in 1997, Atlanta's WXIA TV presented her with an Outstanding Community Service Award for her Alter-Care program, and that same year she was voted "Best Chiropractor" in Creating Loafing's "Best of Atlanta" issue; and

WHEREAS, from 1995 through 1997, she effectively served as President of the Board of Billings House, another nonprofit organization that offered help to the HIV and AIDS community; and

WHEREAS, she has continued her work as a healer in every sense of the word, focusing her unlimited energy on physical and emotional wellness of her patients, family, and friends; and

WHEREAS, everyone who meets her understands why she is so widely recognized throughout the Atlanta health care community and this state and why she is so well-loved; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that Dr. Mary K. Brittain, healer of body and of heart, be recognized for her inspiring service to her community and to the citizens of the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mary K. Brittain, D.C. for her many achievements and for her outstanding contributions to her community and state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mary K. Brittain, D.C.
