RESOLUTION
Commending
the Georgia Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and recognizing "National PTA
Founders Day on Capitol Hill; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is an association promoting and
advocating for children's health, welfare, and education in our state and around
the country; and
WHEREAS,
the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was founded in 1897 and is
celebrating its 108th anniversary on February 17, 2005; and
WHEREAS,
through the tireless volunteer advocacy efforts of PTA members in Georgia and
throughout the country, important, innovative efforts have been undertaken such
as child labor laws, juvenile justice codes, kindergarten, school hot lunch
programs, school immunization against childhood diseases, drug awareness
programs, television ratings, and many other worthwhile endeavors contributing
to our schools and society; and
WHEREAS,
PTA members in our communities are seeking to promote and encourage parental
involvement in our public schools to benefit student achievements and are an
integral part of the successful awareness and adoption of important activities
for our local schools; and
WHEREAS,
PTAs across the country celebrate the founding of PTA and commemorate their
individual and collective accomplishments every year on February 17 –
known as Founders Day.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body gratefully commend the stalwart, untiring, and continuing efforts of
the Georgia Parent Teacher Association (PTA); celebrate its members' countless
contributions towards the betterment of education for all children in this
state; and recognize February 17, 2005, as "National PTA Founders Day on Capitol
Hill."
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia
PTA.
