A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of Joseph Robert Beyrle; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our natiońs security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harḿs way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, the United States recently lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens in the untimely passing of Joseph Robert Beyrle while he was visiting Toccoa, Georgia, the site of his military training; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Robert Beyrle has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, "Jumpin' Joe" diligently and conscientiously served his country with honor and distinction as a paratrooper in the United States Army 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles during World War II; and

WHEREAS, this extraordinary combat veteran is the only soldier to fight for both the United States and the Soviet Union and among his many military honors, in 1994, received four medals for his service in the Red Army from the President Boris Yeltsin; and

WHEREAS, the untimely passing of this American hero leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human spirit and willpower and will always serve as a reminder that "freedom is not free," and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized appropriately.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Joseph Robert Beyrle; commend him for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country; and extend to his family their most profound appreciation for all members of the United States military who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Joseph Robert Beyrle.
