A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the late Mrs. Harriet G. Darnell and commending the Harriet G. Darnell Senior
Multipurpose Facility; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Harriett G. Darnell, for whom the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose
Facility is named, was a pioneer in the development of services for Fulton
County senior citizens and their families; and
WHEREAS,
in the
1960́s,
Mrs. Darnell developed some of the first programs designed to target seniors who
were isolated from the community because of income, health, or transportation,
and she was often the only link between seniors and social services agencies;
and
WHEREAS,
the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility in Atlanta, Georgia, in the
same spirit that motivated its namesake, strives to help enrich the minds,
bodies, and spirits of Fulton County senior citizens; and
WHEREAS,
the facility offers a rich assortment of classes, programs, and services that
benefit and enhance the quality of life for the growing number of seniors in the
community; and
WHEREAS,
the facility offers seniors valuable opportunities to socialize, exercise, eat
lunch with friends, engage in arts and crafts, and learn useful skills and
information; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper during this observation of Senior Week at
the Capitol to recognize the dedication and important contributions of the late
Mrs. Harriett G. Darnell and the facility named in her honor.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor the late Mrs. Harriett G. Darnell and commend the Harriett G.
Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility for the services it provides to the seniors
in our community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Harriett
G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility.
