RESOLUTION
Honoring
Ella Ray Oakes; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ella Ray Oakes has been an active member of the Dahlonega
Womańs
Club for 54 years, serving as president and being selected as the Club Woman of
the Year and the Ideal Club Member; and
WHEREAS,
Ella Ray Oakes served as state chairman for the Georgia Federation of
Womeńs
Clubs International Affairs Committee and the Ninth District Recording
Secretary; and
WHEREAS,
Ella Ray Oakes is the founder and ongoing director of
Dahlonegás
annual Family Day July 4th Celebration, named many times as a "Top 20 Event" for
the southeastern United States; and
WHEREAS,
Ella Ray Oakes was named Woman of the Year by the Dahlonega/Lumpkin County
Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS,
Ella Ray Oakes served on the Georgia Commission on the Status of Women;
and
WHEREAS,
Ella Ray Oakes and her husband Newton were presented the North Georgia College
Gold Steeple Award for outstanding service to the college and both were awarded
the Morrison Moore Award of Honor for community service; and
WHEREAS,
Ella Ray Oakes has demonstrated leadership in business, industry, education, the
arts, and volunteerism in decades of dedication to the Dahlonega
community.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor Ella Ray Oakes and express their appreciation for her
outstanding contributions to the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ella Ray
Oakes.
