RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Honorable Michael Bates, OBE, Her Majesty's Consul General; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Michael Charles Bates was appointed Her
Majestýs
Consul General in Atlanta in June, 2001; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Bates was previously the British Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai, India;
and
WHEREAS,
except for his service as Assistant Press Secretary to Prime Minister Thatcher,
Mr. Bates has spent his entire career in the British Diplomatic Service;
and
WHEREAS,
he entered the Foreign Service in 1966 and since then he has served in New
Delhi, Moscow, Singapore, Brussels, Riga, and Bratislava, where he was Charge
d'Affaires and later Ambassador; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Bates was awarded the OBE in 1994 for his contributions to the Diplomatic
Service.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize and commend Consul General Michael Bates for his service to
the people of Georgia and extend to him their best wishes upon his retirement
from the British Diplomatic Service.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable
Michael Bates.
